Press release about the risk of forests fire

The forest resources are the most valuable natural resource of the Sarajevo Canton.
The consequences of forest fires are an immeasurable. Beside the material damage (expressed in destroyed timber mass) much greater damages occur with temporary or permanent disruption of forest ecosystems.

In 95% of the cases, forest fires are due to human factor. The cause of abiotic factor (lightning, extreme temperatures, etc.) is in only 3 to 4% of the cases. Despite the fact that  forest fires mostly occur during summer time, forest fires occurred recently in the area of the municipalities of Trnovo and Konjic in October and November. In order to protect forest resources we have to consider this important issue during all year.

Directorate of the Forestry of the Sarajevo Canton urges owners of private lands near the forests to ensure their activities do not lead to wildfires, in order to protect forests as highly valuable ecosystems. In November, two fires took place - one on the slopes of Mt Treskavica, the site of Zaklopci toward Kučaram and Orlice rock, and the other in the Municipality of Ilijaš on the site of Donja Ljubina-Kožljen.

We appeal to all citizens to act immediately as soon as they notice forest fire, and inform the Professional Fire Brigade of the Sarajevo Canton, the Directorate of Forestry of the Sarajevo Canton, Civil Protection of the Sarajevo Canton, Ministry of the Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton and Cantonal Public Company (KJP) "Sarajevo forests". The emergency action of fire prevention is very important for the efficient protection and fire fighting.
