Minister Šabić and Mayors Memić and Ejubović signed agreements for regulating and cleaning river watercourses

Muharem Šabić, Minister of the Economy of the Sarajevo Canton and Senaid Memić and Hamdo Ejubović, mayors of municipalities of Ilidža and Hadžići signed three agreements on co-financing projects of regulating and cleaning watercourses in the Municipalities Ilidza and Hadžići.

The Ministry of the Economy will co-finance implementation of five projects according to these agreements in the amount of 640,000 BAM, of which 300,000 BAM will be allocated for the regulation of phase VI of the River Zujevina, 240,000 BAM for the regulation of the riverbed of the same river in the settlements of Binježevo and Pazarić and the center of Hadžići, and 100,000 BAM will be alocated for the regulation of the riverbed of Dobrinja, near "Bingo" Supermarket at Stup.

"The Government of the Sarajevo Canton is responsible for the allocation of water taxes for water flow regulation of the rivers that belong to category two, to stop the future  flooding of the surrounding villages," explained Minister Šabić, adding that the problems are unfortunately streams that belong to category one, and that refers primarily to the rivers Bosna and Željeznica.

Mayor Memić said that the Municipality of Ilidža has all the necessary documentation for solving legal property issues, and the funds will be spent for specific purposes by the end of this year. "Regulation of the River Zujevina will prevent flooding of Blažuj and Osijek, as well as the areas from Mostarsko raskršće to Pazarić and Tarčin," said Mayor Memić.

He underlined that the Vodovod company (which has the main resources in the Ilidža territory) must know that  cause of the flooding  is not the river, but inadequate sewerage network.  Minister Šabić said that the Sarajevsko polje is flooded because of  the rivers Bosna and Željeznica, but  there is a plan to prevent possible floods.

"We will send a request to the Government of the Federation to  invest four million BAM in the Sarajevsko polje in order to solve the problem of floods," said Minister Šabić. He added that additional funds will be investing next year for solving that problem too.

After signing the agreement, Mr Ejubović, the Mayor of Hadžići said that funds will be allocated for the  regulation of the river in Binježevo, which is primarily important for the protection of the local cemetery which could be threatened by the floods.

"We will protect the structures located on the left side of the bridge (entrance to Hadžići) and regulate the stream of Kradenik, Resnik and Zujevina rivers, to avoid the flooding of the surrounding houses."

He also explained that a part of the river embankment is designed for playground for children and youth.

Minister Šabić has announced that the Ministry is planning to start construction (by concession) of mini - hydro-power plants on the River Zujevina next year.
