Construction of the six seater cable car on Mt Bjelašnica - priority of a better tourist offer

The Sarajevo Canton Government has decided to provide favorable credit loans (16 million KM) for the implementation of new vertical transportation - cable car on Mt Bjelašnica, in 2016.

According to the Conceptual Project Design (the project created by IPSA Institute for the ZOI'84 Company, established for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games), a six-seater chairlift will be built on the site of the current three-seater chairlift. It will significantly increase the capacity and speed of tourist transportation, as planned in the long-term development strategy for the ski center on Mt Bjelašnica. The construction of the six-seater chairlift will the improve the vertical transport on Mt Bjelašnica at Babin Dol at a distance of 600 meters. The lift capacity is 2500 persons per hour and the ride from the starting point to the exit point will last about seven minutes.

The construction will be done according to the latest technical and technological solutions which offer maximum safety to the users. During the project implementation, special attention will be paid to the esthetic incorporation of the chairlift into the environment to meet the European environmental standards.

The construction of the new vertical transportation will improve the offer in the ski season, development of the winter sports-recreation center to the level that meets the global competitive standards, and increase the overall sports and tourist offer of both the Sarajevo Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to meet the requirements for the European Youth Olympic Festival which will take place in 2019.
